If one person is telling the family that the patient may get better or may respond well to a treatment when all the others are saying something different, the family will listen only to the person with the better message.
This includes physicians, nursing, therapists, nutritionists, and social workers.
Family members are desperate for a "medical person" to confirm what they believe – that their family member will get better, walk again, etc. even though others are telling them different. |
