Adult Homes
Adult homes are licensed by the State to provide care for four or more adults who are aged or mentally or physically disabled. Homes for adults provide room, board, supervision, and assistance with daily activities such as bathing or dressing. Persons appropriate for admission to adult homes are generally those who need some supervision or assistance with less than 3 ADLs.
Neither Medicare nor Medicaid pays for adult home living. Persons with low income who receive social security may qualify for the Auxiliary Grant Program that helps persons pay for living in adult homes.
Assisted Living Homes
Assisted living sites are not licensed by the State and are not covered by Medicare/Medicaid or the Auxiliary Grant Program. Assisted living includes places such as Sunrise Manor and are usually quite expensive. They are designed for persons who need little assistance and provide a private room for the person, a dining room where meals are served, and a variety of recreational activities.
