Many falls result in serious injury, including fracture, painful bruises, subdural hematoma.

The first goal should be to evaluate the patient carefully for injury.

  • Obtain a clear account of what occurred and examine the patient thoroughly
Falls that occur in institutions are also a common cause for litigation.
  • Make careful notes of your findings.
  • Order x-rays of any areas where fractures may have occurred that are easily overlooked on exam
