Patients have the right to control what happens to their bodies.
In some cases, informed patients with adequate decision-making capacity will make choices that the physician thinks foolish, dangerous or does not agree with.
Physicians may try to change the patient's mind but are ultimately obliged to respect and honor such decisions.
Make sure family members know about any decisions that are made, and about any concerns that you may have.
If the physician disagrees with the final decision, and feels uncomfortable with the situation, the physician may excuse himself or herself from the case.

Ultimately, if you disagree with a patient's choice, you may remove yourself from the case.
